Privacy and your game save

You can play without a game account. Your current life is saved in your browser, while the site calculates results on its server. This page describes the current implementation.

Updated

What stays in this browser

The game stores its rule version, generated starting value, choices and current reading stage in local site storage. These values let it rebuild your character and story. The game does not ask for your real name, date of birth, email address or precise location. The character's name and birthplace belong to the fictional life.

What is sent when you play

Starting, advancing, restoring a life or switching its language sends the rule version, starting value, choice history and selected language to the site's own life simulation endpoint. The current game has no account database or cross-device save service. Keeping the save in your browser does not mean the game works entirely offline.

Hosting and usage measurements

Cloudflare delivers this site and its simulation endpoint. Like other web hosting services, it processes connection information needed to serve and protect requests, such as an IP address and request metadata. Cloudflare Web Analytics is also present on the live site to measure page usage and performance. Read Cloudflare's explanation of its measurement data. This page does not promise an unverified retention period for hosting logs.

How to remove a local save

Use your browser's site-data settings to clear storage for 1in8b-life.org. This removes the local life and may prevent recovery of that progress. Private browsing, blocked storage or clearing browser data can also remove a save. Beginning a new life replaces the active life; it does not constitute a request to erase hosting or analytics records.

Devices, domains and external links

Saves belong to this browser and site origin. They do not automatically transfer from localhost, another domain, another browser or another device. Source and attribution links lead to external sites, whose own data practices apply when you visit them.
